Nihonbashi Revitalization Plan

Creation of new industries

In order to promote the creation of industries unique to Nihonbashi, we will focus on “space,” “mobility,” and “food” as new strategic domains in addition to “life science.” We will work to create opportunities and develop places for the creation and co-creation of Nihonbashi’s original business and culture, and support the growth of industries from both the tangible and intangible aspects.

Ongoing strategic category / “Life science”

Nihonbashi, which was lined with drug wholesalers during the Edo period, is being transformed into a town with a concentration of life science companies.

With Link-J as the parent organization, we seek to promote open innovation by creating venues and opportunities to bring together a wide range of players.

Establishment of Life Science Innovation Network Japan (Link-J)

Link-J has become a nucleus for collaboration between industry, government, and academia, creating opportunities for entrepreneurial development and investment in intellectual property.

Creation of spaces

We will establish a variety of sites, including leased offices, serviced offices, conferences, and shared laboratories specializing in life sciences.

Creation of opportunities

We will provide a variety of opportunities for interaction, including networking events and receptions as well as conferences and pitch events.

New strategic categories / “Space,” “mobility,” and “food”

Space

The “space” sector is growing rapidly with the entry of private companies, and is expected to lead to solutions to global issues. We aim to create new value through collaboration between industry, government, and academia.

Mobility

The geographical history of Nihonbashi serves as a strategic location for land and water, mixed-use functions for work, residence, and recreation, and a network of boat transportation. We aim to provide new urban services in Nihonbashi, which is equipped with the ideal conditions for exploring new forms of urbanism and mobility.

Food

With the fish market at its center, Nihonbashi is where Edo’s rich culinary culture blossomed. We will take on the challenge of passing on and innovating the region’s food culture through the development of an innovation center that brings together various players from industry, government, and academia, and through the promotion of collaboration with long-established businesses.
