Nihonbashi Revitalization Plan

Stage 3

The Nihonbashi Revitalization Plan enters Stage 3

In 2019, with the opening of Nihonbashi Muromachi Mitsui Tower and COREDO Muromachi Terrace, the Nihonbashi Revitalization Plan entered Stage 3. Following the development concept of “preserve, revive, and create” and the four keywords of “industrial creation,” “neighborhood creation,” “regional symbiosis,” and “water city revitalization,” we will promote urban development based on empathy, co-creation, and co-generation.

In Stage 3, Greater Nihonbashi will be used as the stage for area management that respects the individuality of the city. Under the three key concepts of “revitalization of the waterfront,” “creation of new industries,” and “hosting international events that connect with the world,” we will promote urban development that leads to solutions to global issues.

Vision for the Nihonbashi Revitalization Plan

Nihonbashi, the starting point of a road leading to the future

During the Edo period, Nihonbashi, as the starting point of the Gokaido (Five Routes), was a very innovative town where people, goods, and things gathered from all over Japan, and new industries and cultures were created through such exchanges. We would like to recreate such a centralized city on the world stage in the modern era by gathering people from all over the world, exchanging ideas, and sharing new values for the future. We will aim to make the city the starting point of such a project.

Stage

The area corresponding to the former Nihonbashi Ward was divided into the West Area and the East Area, with Showa-Dori Street as the boundary. The entire area is designated as GREATER Nihonbashi, and efforts will be made to create an integrated urban development that makes the most of the unique characteristics of these areas.
